Ever since they were children, Gillian Hearth has been her sister Frankie’s guardian, her sounding board, and her best friend. Together, the Hearth sisters quietly bury their secrets and form a formidable team during any crisis. Purchasing the old Blymhill house with the hopes of turning it into an artists’ retreat, the sisters are finally living their dream. But when Frankie’s stable ground is rattled by a vengeful ex-boyfriend, an unstable friend from the past shows up unannounced with delusions of intimacy, and a cold case cop starts sniffing around their door, the sisters are forced to wonder how far they will go to keep their secrets safe. Gillian discovers that, this time, her fight is about to land her in the crosshairs of a dangerous predator who will use any means necessary to remove her from the equation. With everything she holds dear under threat, Gillian battles to keep her head above water and her skeletons in the closet.

Closet Full Of Bones A J Aalto 9780995200456 Books

"Closet Full of Bones" was quite a read -- not the madcap, action-packed thrill-ride we've gotten from Aalto's Marnie Baranuik series, but a dark, complex, intricate tale of loyalty and revenge and the lengths to which people will go to protect their families from harm. The main character, Gillian Hearth, is an understated, deeply fascinating woman, whose love for her sister, the flighty and unpredictable Frankie, leads her to make choices that tangles the pair ever deeper into chaos and tragedy. To give more than that would spoil the way Aalto lets the story unfold; so I'll end by saying that this dark tale of the gradual unraveling of Gillian's life is un-put-downable. I read the whole thing in a single day. You will, too.

Closet Full Of Bones A J Aalto 9780995200456 Books Reviews

I really liked this book. I started to read a few chapters and the next thing I knew it was almost the next day. The characters are fully fleshed out and I felt like I knew them. Lots of twists and turns, couldn't figure out who was doing what, which is a good thing for me. If I can figure out what the ending will be early not as much joy in reading.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a mystery. I will read more by this author.
I loved this book. The writing was great. And the tale intriguing. It will be hard to do a review without giving away any spoilers though...

Two sisters one a bit flighty, Franky, and the other level headed, Gillian, endeavor to open a bed and breakfast that will cater to artists. They manage to land a huge old Victorian for the retreat and it looks as though all will go as planned. Until an ex of Franky's starts to stir up trouble. Harassing phone calls and texts, threats, and some disgusting 'gifts' put the sisters on edge. Still they persevere. But as the story deepens we learn there are some serious skeletons in the sister's closet and they must do everything they can to keep them hidden. More threats from within and without drive them both to the edge.

Along the way there are plenty of twists and turns and things you didn't see coming. Definitely a page turner and a great read.

My only problem now is that it looks like the author's other books are horror and I don't read horror. I hope she decides to write another book like Closet Full of Bones (huh, just got the title - too funny) soon.
No spoilers. Not really.
Great story. Real page turner. Then in one and a half pages she summarises the lives of all characters right at the climax! No real answers no wrapping it up.........just over. Like the author had a deadline she needed to make. I would still recommend this as a free book, certainly don't buy it. But understand at the end your left with an, are you kidding me rushed explanation of an anticlimactic ending.
I think I would have given this book a 5-star rating if I could have kept the characters straight. They were not introduced well and in a timely manner but all were relevant to the story.

That being said, the story moved along at a fast pace and had some great twists and turns. I liked that that there was a little crazy mixed in with a bit of love and sex and murder.. Quite the surprise ending,, too.
I really enjoyed this book and read it in just over a day. I haven't read a lot of this author's previous work, only a couple of the Marnie shorts. Great writing, a great story, and wonderful characters made for a great book that to me was well worth the asking price. The only character that didn’t seem authentic to me was 18 year old Evelyn. A few red herrings keep you guessing. I’d love to read a story about Mrs Blymhill. All in all I highly recommend this book to lovers of mysteries & psychological dramas.
A.J. Aalto, author of the popular Marnie Baranuik paranormal fantasy series, offers her readers A Closet Full of Bones, her first psychological thriller. I knew upon reading the first sentence—“She had the dump site picked out before she’d made up her mind to kill him.”—that I was in for an entertaining ride. I wasn’t disappointed. What an impressive debut.

This is an intricately woven tale with a cast of very interesting and well-developed characters. At the center of it is two sisters who have a lot of secrets between the two of them. As the narrative progresses, the reader is given more and more insight into their lives and their complicated relationship. The author layers this story incredibly well, and with every new detail she provides, with each new character she introduces, the plot thickens. I thought I had it figured out a few different times, but that’s just what A.J. Aalto wanted me to think. She still got me in the end.

No spoilers from this reader. This is one you’ll need to read on your own. I guarantee that it’s well worth it.
A.J.Alto has my admiration and respect. Excellent writing, complex characters, a plethora of twists in this plot, but so dark and sad and full of truly unbalanced and unlikable characters that I simply had to skim some parts. The four stars -- due to Ms. Alto's well-crafted writing. I cannot force myself to provide five stars. I now must find something light and uplifting to read and try to forget I ever spent my precious time reading this book.
